Al Qaeda’s 9/11 Attack: Osama bin Laden organized an attack on the United States using hijacked commercial planes. Each target was selected to make a statement. Two planes were flown into the World Trade Center Twin Towers in New York. A third plane crashed into the Pentagon. A fourth plane was forced down by passengers before it could reach its intended target — the Capitol.
Al Qaeda’s financiers used the attack to generate personal wealth. Bin Laden intended to show America was vulnerable and elevate himself to the stature of a legitimate leader of an Arab revolution.
